Dachshunds – Puppies
General Appearance
Dachshunds are known in a number of varieties. As a rule, standard, miniature and rabbit types (rabbit is a much smaller mini) are distinguished. According to the coat length and texture, Dachshunds can be smooth, wirehaired and longhaired, the smooth variety being the oldest type.Dachshunds have no doggie oder and shed very little with very low pet dander. We choose not to breed piebald or dapple.
The elongated body, short legs and intelligent expression of the face are the features that make the Dachshund recognizable. In spite of its peculiar looks, the breed is highly respected for its hunting flair and loyalty. The Dachshund is well balanced. Its form answers the hunting purposes. The Dachshund has to be low to ground and mobile to hunt badgers and other animals.
Dachshunds - Puppies - What to Expect?
Dachshunds are said to be the bravest and the most dignified among small dogs. Having purchased a Dachshund puppy, you can be sure it will display its independence. On the other hand, the Dachshund is devoted to its owner and there is nothing else that will make it happier than taking an active part in everything you undertake.
Dachshunds are inventive and sometimes cunning. They are capable of seeing their advantages and use their charm to get what they want. Dachshunds like cuddling and can spend hours on the owner's lap. It has been our experience that doxies are very good with children, at least ours are!
Be careful with the Dachshund's hunting instinct. It can dig tunnels or chase an imaginary prey. During walks, always use leash! As the Dachshund is initially a hound dog, with enough exercise and wise training your doxie should maintain its physical and mental health. It is also very important to find a good a veterinarian for your new doxie and maintain a good relationship with them.
